5/30/2020 from Rockland, ME to Greenland West Coast on a Garcia 54

OPO e-mail # 20-24 Rockland, ME to Greenland West Coast and back - Long time OPO member OPOOPO is looking to add one or two crew, for a total of five, for this great adventure north this summer. He has his wife and another experienced mate already aboard. I have known and sailed with Phil and he is a very nice skipper. He has a great boat, a Far designed 1990 OPOOPO 54. The boat is a very comfortable and solid 54' aluminum yacht built by Garcia. This is the builder of OPOOPO most recent boat, which he took through the N OPOOPO You may have been on the boat and met OPOOPO at the Annapolis boat show three or fours years ago. Phil has over 15,000 offshore miles and is well prepared and equipped for this passage north. Phil adds: “The boat has a Plotter, radar, AIS, depth, VHF, Sat phone, chart program on laptops, generator, watermaker, 250 gallons fuel, 370 gallons water, SOLAS 8-man liferaft, heater, enclosed dodger, bimini, RIB, harness/lifevests, jacklines, 120# Spade anchor, 330' of 1/2" chain, mainsl 3 reefs, roller genoa, staysl, storm jib. Captain has done numerous offshore passages including one transatlantic. RY OPOOPO Offshore certificate. Wife (first mate) has done a number of offshore passages including two transatlantic and has USCG 25 ton master inland, mate near coastal license. We have sailed the boat in Turkey, Greece, Spain, Portugal, France, UK, Madeira, Canaries, transat to Caribbean, Bermuda, NE USA, OPOOPO and Newfoundland. Our good friend crewing on this trip has sailed with us Greece to UK, France to Madeira, Maine to Newfoundland. We only drink in safe harbor situations. Crew should be reasonably healthy, fit, agile and not overweight. Sorry we cannot accommodate special diets. Crew should not be prone to seasickness. They should be prepared and practiced in seasickness management with meds as required”. He would like crew with some offshore experience and can stand a solo watch. I went as far as Newfoundland in 1997 and it is a very special place to visit. Phil would like crew to contribute about $15 a day towards provisioning for this 3 month trip. This is very reasonable as he is proving the boat. It is a long time to pay for food for 5 people and OPO policy allows a small contribution for passages that are not forced march deliveries, but rather cruising around the Caribbean, Europe or like this, a grand adventure north. If interested please email your sailing resume to him along with your contact information to XXXXX@XXXX
